Thousands of new business owners flock to Canva daily to create their business logo because it’s quick, free, and easy. That being said, any good logo is never quick, free, and easy.
1) YOUR LOGO ISN’T UNIQUE TO YOUR BUSINESS
The purpose of creating a logo is to identify your unique brand & business but when thousands of people are using the same template based Canva logo design, it completely defeats the entire purpose of a logo.
2) YOU CAN’T TRADE MARK YOUR DESIGN
As stated previously, the templates are not exclusive to one business and one business only meaning the design can’t be trademarked.
3) NO VECTOR FILES
Canva is not a professional design software meaning whatever you produce cannot be exported in a vector format. Without a vector you’ll run into all sorts of issues when you try to scale your logo & print it on enlarged materials. Usually your logo will become very blurry or totally illegible over all.
4) LIMITED CUSTOMIZATION
Since Canva isn’t a professional design software it lacks many of the capabilities that Adobe Illustrator (the graphic design industry standard software) posses such as the ability to expand and manipulate text.
5) PNG VERSIONS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FOR PREMIUM USERS
If you don’t have the premium version of Canva you’ll only be able to export your “logo” in a jpg format meaning there will be a white box behind the entire logo. This is seriously inconvenient when you want to place your logo over a photo, add it to your website, or even use it on printed materials.
Canva can still be useful for quick social media graphics or instagram story templates but you definitely shouldn’t be creating any form of branding on this software! Your business logo should be 100% original to help your brand stand out, not some cookie cutter template that looks the same as thousands of other businesses.
That being said, if Canva is the only option for you at this point in business just keeps these things in mind as you’rE scaling, growing, and ordering branded packaging!
